Season's Greetings Golfers

To all members of the Wednesday night golf league we wish you all a very safe and happy holiday season.

Under the tree the gifts enthrall,
But the nicest present of them all
Is filling our thoughts with those who care,
Wanting our Christmas joy to share.

To you, whom we're often thinking of,
We send our holiday joy and love.

Terry Fox Golf Tournament

The Murray Hills Men's League was well represented at the 7th Annual Tee-Off for Terry Fox Golf Tournament held on Saturday October 13th at the course in Wooler.

Many of the foursomes involved in the scramble format event included Men's League members.

It was a cool and windy day and the rain held off until the final few holes as approximately 40 teams took part in the event.

The winning score of -7 was turned in by members of the Fat Shafts team, Andy Koetstra, Mark Kennedy, Lyle Williams and Fred Vanlingen. This was their groups fourth win in the seven year history of the tournament.

The Fat Shafts battled another Men's League foursome for the lead all day as Barry Defosse, Dave Powell, Kim Defosse and Steve Powell turned in a solid performance.

Thanks to all members of the Men's League who took part and helped in raising over 9-thousand dollars for cancer research.

Playoff Champions Crowned

It was a hot September 8th but the heat and sunshine was perfect weather for the Men's League final day of Playoffs.

All 12 teams took part in the last 18 holes of competition for the year and the 2007 champions were crowned.

In the "A Division" the Wedgers had a solid final day to claim the title with a comfortable 8 stroke margin of victory over the second place Fat Shafts.

In the "B Division", the Rolling Stones bested their competition and earned the title.

And in the "C Division" the top honours went to the Whizbangers.

Several individuals also walked away with awards for closest to the pins and cleaners while many more won draw prizes and dues payed for next season.

One special presentation was made to Dan Jess who earned the "Shank Award" after sending a tee shot into the parking lot the previous Wednesday and embedding his ball into the side mirror of a fellow golfers truck.

A delicious steak meal followed the awards and many more took part in the putting competitions late into the evening.

Special thanks to Steve Powell who worked so hard to make the days events run so smoothly and took care of every last detail. Also thanks to the staff and volunteers who assisted during the day.

Congratulations to all of the winners and to all league members, have a safe winter and we'll see you in the Spring.

Men's League Blog Opens

The Murray Hills Golf Club Wednesday night Men's League blog is now open for business.

This blog is simply another way in this modern computer age to keep golfers in our league apprised of league news, events, standings and perhaps a few fun items along the way.

I started this at the end of our season only because I just thought of the idea and figured it might be worth trying. Hopefully it will serve a purpose and provide a location for league members to stop by for the latest information on our league...if there is any.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment. There's no guarantee this will last but if you think it's a good idea, then please let us know.
