Despite a few showers early in the round, the final 18 holes of our Mens League Playoffs were enjoyed by everyone.
It was an overcast and cooler day and the few rain showers didn’t keep the teams from turning in some impressive scores for the day.
All 12 teams took part in the final round of competition for the year and the 2008 champions were crowned.
In the "A Division" the Southpaws nearly let their lead slip away but held on for a three stroke victory of the Wedgers.
In the "B Division", the Rolling Stones bested their competition handily and cruised to a convincing 11 stroke win ahead of the Dubbers.
And in the "C Division" the top honours came down to a tie breaker between the Bogies and the Fivesome with the Bogies getting the victory.
Several individuals also walked away with awards for closest to the pins and cleaners while many more won draw prizes. A delicious steak meal followed the awards and many more took part in the putting competitions late into the evening.
Special thanks to Steve Powell whose hard work made the days events run smoothly as always. Also thanks to Tom, Alida, Debbie & Jessie for their efforts as well during the day.
A good day was had by all as we wrapped up another year. Congratulations to all of the winners and to all league members have a safe winter and we'll see you in the Spring.

A Wednesday Wash Out
For those of you who showed up on Wednesday night, you know first hand that this weeks golf was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Heavy rain and lightning caused a half hour delay before it was finally decided that we would cancel the matches for the evening and try again next Wednesday night.
For those of you who paid for the Closest To The Pin competition it is my understanding that there will be two CTTP holes on each nine next week. Those who didn't have their money in will pay double next week to be included.
This is the first time I can recall a Mens League night being cancelled due to the weather although I'm sure it has happened in the past at some point. We've golfed in some pretty heavy rain before but the lightning is nothing to play with so it was best to ere on the side of caution.
See you all next week!

Hole-in-One For Walker
Congratulations to Dave Walker of the Latecomers who earned his first ever ace on Wednesday night.
Using a 56-degree wedge, he sank his tee shot on the 102 yard 5th hole.
Joining Walker was his team-mate Don Muldoon and from the Hackers, Mick Berridge and Don St.Denis.
It's the second hole-in-one for a member of our league in as many weeks and everyone will be wanting to golf with Don as he was also witness to that one.
Way to go Dave!

Adams Aces Eighteen
Congratulations to Mark Adams of the Hackers who recorded his second career hole-in-one.
Adams used a seven iron on the 18th hole from the white tees. The hole was hidden from view on the tee and after searching for his ball he finally looked in the cup and was thrilled to find it nestled in the bottom of the cup.
Also golfing in the group and witnessing the ace were Don St.Denis, Lyle Williams and Mark Kennedy.
As a bonus, the 18th hole was also one of the Closest to the Pin holes for the night.

Stormy Weather Advice
This has been an unusually stormy start to the golf season and when we head out on the course, safety should be our first concern.
According to the USGA there are some things to remember when the bad weather approaches.
AVOID
- Solitary Trees
- Small rain or sun shelters
- Large open areas
- Wet areas
- Elevated areas
- All metal objects including: golf clubs, golf carts, fences, electrical and maintenance machinery and power lines
SEEK
- Large permanent building
- Fully enclosed metal vehicle: car, truck or van
- Lowest elevation areas
If sudden, close-in lightning does not permit evacuation to a safer place, crouch into a baseball catchers type position with feet together and hands on knees.
Any player has the right to stop play if they think lightning threatens them or they feel unsafe even if no signal from the clubhouse has sounded. Safety first.

Tiger Being Tiger
Whether you love him or hate him....or just hate how much the announcers talk about him, you can't deny the talent Tiger Woods has when it comes to golf.
He has a flare for the dramatics and Round 3 of the 2008 U.S. Open was no exception.
Here now are a few of his highlights on the back nine on Saturday.

18 Holes For Three Weeks
Hey guys, just a reminder to everyone that starting tonight June 11th we will have three straight weeks of playing 18 holes instead of the usual nine.
While some of you might think the start time will change, that isn't the case. We will be teeing off at the usual 6:00pm tee time and the round should last about 3 hours.
Don't forget your bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes and black flies.

League Begins Finally
Thanks to mother nature we didn't start on the date we'd hoped but another season of Men's League is finally underway.
It is our hope to keep this site as up to date as possible and to provide a quick online source where you can get any information league members may need.
League schedules are available at the golf course and we'll also keep the schedule updated here as well.
Have a great year guys and hit them straight.

Think Warm Thoughts
The snow continues to blanket the ground and the golf course but with January behind us it won't be long before we can pull the clubs out of storage.
Once the warmer weather arrives and the snow has melted be sure to check back to this site for any possible updates to let you know of a potential start date for the 2008 season. I would guess sometime in April if all goes well.
Once league President Steve lets me know for sure I'll post the information.
Enjoy the rest of the winter and see you at the clubhouse soon.
