It's Official...Season To Start

In case you hadn't heard guys, we've been officially informed that the league will kick off on Wednesday April 11th.

League dues are still $30 and are to be paid that night. If you can't scrape together the dough then you can probably get a week's extension but please be prepared to pay if you can.

I was out again tonight with about 18 guys for a fun scramble and despite a cool breeze we had a good round in preparation for the start of the league. The greens are in great shape and were even kind enough to grant us a few birdies.

So pull the clubs out of storage and get ready to start swinging next Wednesday night...weather permitting of course.

See you then!

Are You Ready To Start Swinging?

I hope everyone survived the winter just fine. It certainly wasn't a rough one like we've seen in the past and I haven't heard too many complaints.

I was out to the golf course last night and played a scramble with about 15 members of the League who decided to take advantage of the early Spring golfing weather. The guys were out dusting off the rust from a long break and preparing for the season ahead.

As it stands right now, if the weather co-operates, the first night of league play will be on Wednesday April 11th at 6:00 p.m. as usual.

The dues are still $30 and should be paid on the first night but I'm sure they'll let you slide for a week before they come after you.

The course is in excellent shape and wintered well. I noticed they have some new flags and cups this year which I'm sure we'll all look forward to filling.

If I hear of any changes I'll be sure to post them here and if all goes well I'll try to keep the site and standings updated throughout the season as usual.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the course again soon.

2011 Playoffs - Final Round

After a season that saw more rainy Wednesday nights for golf then I can ever recall since joining the league, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to play the final 18 holes of our playoffs.

Congratulations to the Southpaws who cruised to a 10 stroke margin of victory in the "A" Division.

The "B" Division was the tightest as the Whizbangers finished in first by one stroke over the Wedgers.

The Latecomers lead was too great and they won by 20 stroked to claim the "C" Division title.

The meal following the round was delicious as always and it appeared that everyone had a fun time taking part in the putting contests. Congratulations to all of the Closest to the Pin winners that are too numerous to mention.

Thanks to Steve Powell once again this season for all of his hard work and dedication to the league and his efforts on the final day as well.

Also thanks to Lynn and Debbie for keeping us hydrated during the final round and a big thank you to Tom and Alida for all they do to make our league more enjoyable.

To all of our league members we wish you a healthy, happy and safe Autumn and Winter and look forward to seeing you again next Spring.

For those of you who take the time to visit our league blog, I hope you've found it interesting, informative and at times a little humourous. I've enjoyed keeping it updated once again this season.

Let The Playoffs Begin

And just like that, another regular season of golf came to an end. I swear the seasons go by faster every year but they're always enjoyable.

The playoff divisions are now set but I have yet to get the Official Final Standings with the tie-breakers having been determined. At this point it really doesn't matter a whole lot as everyone is on their own. The playoffs will begin next Wednesday night with nine holes from the white tees followed by another nine holes from the forward tees the Wednesday after that. The final 18 holes and party will take place on Saturday September 10th, usually starting at 3pm.

To wrap up the regular season matches tonight, the Fat Shafts, KGB, Southpaws and Rolling Stones all took six points. The Dubbers and Latecomers earned four points while the Bogies and Wedgers took two points each.

The 50/50 winner was Coady McGillvary. The Closest to the Pin winners were Norm Toyne on #1 and Al Wilkinson on #10.

Dubbers Clinch With One Week Left

It was handshakes all around for the members of the Dubbers tonight as they earned four points while the KGB could only manage two points in their match. Four points was enough for the Dubbers to clinch the regular season league title with only one week remaining before playoffs.

Heading into the final Wednesday only one playoff spot is yet to be determined as the Bogies and Hackers are separated by just two points for eighth spot.

Taking all six points in their matches tonight were the Southpaws, Rolling Stones and Fat Shafts. The Latecomers and CCCP took four while two points went to the Hackers and Bogies.

The best shots on the Closest to the Pin holes were turned in by Andy Koetstra on #9 and Michael Morey on #18. The 50/50 winner was Brad Gibson.

Getting Close To The End

With the completion of tonight's round, we now have just two weeks of regular season golf left before the playoffs begin. This means teams are running out of time to make a move to either improve their positions in the standings or to sandbag and drop down a few spots.

It wouldn't be a report if I didn't mention the weather and I can't speak for everyone but that might have been the most ideal weather conditions for golf we've had this season. The temperature was comfortable and the bugs were few and far between.

Just three teams swept their matches tonight as the Whizbangers, CCCP and Latecomers each took six points. The Fat Shafts and KGB earned five points, the Southpaws four, Dubbers two and the Wedgers and Rolling Stones took a single point each.

Norm Toyne was dialed in on hole #8 with the pin located on the top deck and won the Closest to the Pin while Jerry Powell stuck it close on hole #17. Dave Walker was this weeks 50/50 winner.

To those of you golfing in the Club Championships this weekend we wish you best of luck and stay dry.

Soggy But Cool Round

I promised I wouldn't complain about the rain anymore after having to deal with the intense heat we suffered through recently. Luckily I didn't have to break that promise as the day long rain came to an end just in time for the start of the round tonight.

After the razzing Dan Jess took for his errant tee shot a while back, it's only fair that I mention the highlight of this night. Tim Donaldson showed that Dan isn't the only one who can send a ball careening off the cars in the parking lot as he shanked his first tee shot of the evening off an automobile or two. What is it with these lefties?

Three teams took all six points in their matches as the Dubbers, KGB and Wedgers shot well. The Bogies took five points, the Rolling Stones and Hackers took four each, the Fat Shafts and Southpaws earned two points and the Fivesome took a single point.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Paul Reid on hole #7 and Kim Defosse on hole #16. Tom St.Denis was the 50/50 winner.
