Updates Will Be Delayed

Unlike previous seasons the updates to the blog may take some time to show up and could possibly be a day or two.

Due to my current work schedule I won't be able to stick around and wait for teams to fill out the points sheet. Alida has said she'd be kind enough to email me the results at her earliest convenience which I greatly appreciate.

As soon as I can get in front of a proper computer I will post the updates and any photos from the evenings round.

Thanks for your patience guys. Have a good season!

Let the 2015 Season Begin

I just got off the phone with Steve Powell and have been told the course is open and we are ready to get things going.

This coming Wednesday (April 16th) will be a Fun Night and not actual league play. It's a chance to come out and get the rust off your swing and see the familiar faces and perhaps some new ones as well. It will just be a fun round of golf.

The first official round of league play will take place on Wednesday April 22nd beginning at the usual 6pm shotgun start time. Points will start counting that night.

Lets all hope this warmer weather finally holds and we can put that long cold winter behind us. See you on the course.

Spring Arrives, Snow Still Here

It has been a long, cold, windy, snowy and miserable winter. Even longer if you're a Leafs fan.

Spring has officially arrived and we're getting closer to that time when we can pull the golf clubs out of storage and get them ready for another season of hitting the links.

Obviously how soon we start the league this year will depend on Mother Nature but as soon as I hear anything I will be sure to post it here.

In the meantime, I hope everyone had a safe winter and we'll see you on the course soon.

2014 Playoffs - Final 18 and Party

I don't think we could have asked for a much better day to wrap up yet another season of Men's League play and the playoffs. The rain moved away, the sun came out and the temperature was ideal for the final 18 holes of the year and the party that followed.

Congratulations to the winners in each division of the playoffs!

In the "A" Flight, the Rolling Stones cruised to a convincing margin of victory posting a 36 hole total of 350 which left them 21 strokes ahead of the second place KGB who shot 371. The Wedgers grabbed third spot with a 373 while the Southpaws finished fourth at 374.

The "B" Flight was slightly closer with the Whizbangers hanging on for a slim two stroke victory.
Mark Kennedy and Andy Koetstra pose for a selfie.
They shot 387 while the second place Dubbers shot 389. Well back in third were the Fat Shafts with 413 while the CCCP shot 417.

Over in the "C" Flight, the Bogies had a solid lead heading into the day and didn't falter. They shot a 36 hole total of 400 with the Latecomers grabbing second spot with a 418 total. The Fivesome took third with 437, just ahead of the Hackers who finished with a total of 439.

Congratulations to all of the Closest to the Pin winners during the playoffs. There were too many to mention here but you know who you are.

As always, a big thank you goes to Steve Powell for all of his hard work in running the league and especially for everything he does to make the final day and party a big success. Thanks also to Tom and Alida for another wonderful year. I think we can all agree that the course was in great shape today and all season long as well.
Dave Powell grabs a seat.
Also thanks to Debbie Stewart for helping to keep us all hydrated by running the refreshment cart and for helping to tally the final totals after the round.

It was another fun season and we look forward to getting together again in the Spring to start it all over again. Just a reminder for those of you interested, although the league is done for the season, we still golf on Wednesday nights as long as the weather and daylight holds up. We usually make up teams and play a best ball format for fun.

I've included some photos and video from the day below that you can view. You can click on the photos to see them larger if you like.

I've enjoyed updating the blog for those of you who know about it and appreciate seeing the weekly results and photos and if all goes well I'll continue it again next season. Have a safe and happy winter season! See you next year!

2014 Playoffs - Second 9 Holes

If you believe the weather man I don't think we'll see the same warm conditions on Saturday as we did tonight but as long as it remains dry we won't complain. It was night two of our playoffs and with 18 holes remaining two divisions remain tight while the other has a bit more wiggle room.

Andy Koetstra tees off on hole 15.
The battle in the "A" Flight continues to be tight and is setting up for an interesting Saturday. The first place Rolling Stones were led by Kyle Wilkinson who shot an even par 27. Norm Toyne turned in a very impressive two under par round of 25 to help the Wedgers stay within striking distance only five strokes back. The Southpaws also remain in the mix six shots off the pace.

Over in the "B" Flight the Whizbangers have opened up a bit of a lead on the competition. Jim Rogers posted a score of 30 to lead the charge and give the team a five stroke advantage over the Dubbers who were lead by Jim Conley's round of 31. The Fat Shafts faltered and now sit 10 shots back of first while the CCCP sit 11 shots back.

In the "C" Flight the Bogies have opened up a comfortable 15 stroke advantage over the Latecomers. Paul Reid once again turned in an impressive round of 30 to lead the charge.
Kory Hietala launches his tee shot.
We've seen leads evaporate on the final Saturday so there's always a chance to mount a comeback.

Just a reminder that the final 18 holes will be played this Saturday afternoon with the shotgun start beginning at 3pm. All team members will golf for their teams with the top three for each nine holes counting as usual. The BBQ and festivities will follow in the evening. Please have a designated driver on standby and drink responsibly. Lets have a great final round. See you then.

2014 Playoffs - First 9 Holes

Denis Schick tees off on hole #7.
It was an ideal evening to kick off our first night of playoffs with only a slight breeze and a few pesky mosquitoes.

As expected, these conditions made for some excellent scoring and some very tight races in the divisions early on.

In the "A" Flight, Kyle Wilkinson posted a two under par 25 to lead the Rolling Stones to a four stroke lead over both the Southpaws and Wedgers.
Lyle Admires His Shot.
The KGB also had a solid first night and only six points separate all of the teams heading into next week.

On the "B" side it was more of the same but an even tighter race is developing. The Fat Shafts and Whizbangers turned in solid rounds of 98. The Whizbangers were led by Denis Schick who posted a 30 while Andy Koetstra shot a one over par 28 for the Fat Shafts. The Dubbers trail by only one stroke while the CCCP posted an impressive round of 101.

There is a bit more breathing room in the "C" flight after night one as Paul Reid was dialed in and shot a 31 to help lead the Bogies to a round of 99 and an early five stroke lead over the Latecomers who were lead by Dave Walker's round of 30. Four strokes back in third are the Hackers while the Fivesome currently sit 15 stokes off the lead.

A reminder that all of the Closest to the Pin winners will announced on the night of our final on September 6th.

Let The Playoffs Begin

It was a sparse group of golfers tonight as many failed to show up for one reason or another but despite the low numbers, the regular season came to an end and now we move to playoff mode.

On this night the final points of the evening were handed out with the KGB, Wedgers, Southpaws, Rolling Stones and Latecomers all taking six points. The Bogies earned four while the CCCP grabbed two points.

Four golfers tied for the low round of the night with Dave Walker, Colin McDonald, Nick Vangemeren and Steve Westlake all shooting a one over par 28. Vangemeren also took home the evenings 50/50 prize. The Closest to the Pin winners were Art Mansfield on hole #7 and Dave Powell on hole #16.

The playoffs will begin next Wednesday night and the division groupings are listed below based on where your team finished during the season. The next two Wednesday's will be nine hole rounds played from the White Tees. The final 18 hole round will be played from the Blue Tees on Saturday September 6th beginning at 3pm followed by the wrap up party and steak BBQ. Please note that only four golfers can play with 3 counting on the Wednesday night rounds but on the Saturday 18 hole final day, all golfers on each team can play with the top three scores counting.

Good Luck and hope to see everyone out.

Playoffs Approaching Fast

A Rainbow shows how close we came to getting wet tonight.
Where has the summer gone? Heck, where was the summer at all? I think we can all agree it wasn't a long hot summer this year which probably helped to make it feel like summer flew by this year and with it our golf season.

With one week of regular season remaining there isn't a lot left to be decided but final positions for the playoffs still have some wiggle room. With only two points separating them, the KGB and Whizbangers both still have a shot at grabbing the final spot in the "A" flight on the last week. If my math is correct, both the "B" and "C" flights have been determined but there is still some room for movement and final seeding.

On this night, the Fivesome, KGB, Rolling Stones and Fat Shafts took all six points up for grabs in their matches.
The Dubbers and Wedgers each earned four points while the Latecomers and CCCP grabbed a pair of points each. Steve Westlake had the low individual round for the evening, shooting an even par 27. The Rolling Stones blanked the Southpaws, but the lefties have already claimed first place overall for the season.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Tom St.Denis on hole #6 and Mark Kennedy on hole #15. Don Muldoon was the 50/50 winner.

I likely won't be there next Wednesday night but will try to get the final results and playoff info updated as soon as I can.

And Then There Were Two

Just two weeks remain in the regular season and teams continue to jockey for playoff positions. Things remain tight for some and the last two weeks could make all the difference.

The skies looked threatening prior to tonight's round but foul weather passed us by luckily.
Bench in memory of Don Kovanen.
Norm Toyne had the lone low score for the evening by shooting an even par 27.

Four teams swept all six points up for grabs with the Hackers, Southpaws, Wedgers and CCCP winning their matches. The Whizbangers and Fivesome came close to sweeping by taking five points. The Dubbers and Latecomers each earned single points.

Lyle Williams was this week's 50/50 winner while Steve Westlake and Andy Koetstra grabbed the Closest to the Pin prizes on holes #5 and #14.

It was also nice to see the new bench sitting by hole #15 in memory of the late Don Kovanen of the Bogies who passed away last year. I know we'll all pause and think of Don when we pass by each round.

See you next week.
