Fat Shafts Shoot 88

On this first night of double points play, the opportunity for some teams to make a move in the standings was there for the taking. But it also meant you could fall in the standings as well. Tonight we saw a little of both.

KGB took advantage moving from fifth to third place leapfrogging a couple of teams.
Al Wilkinson fires a shot on #12.
The Hackers also moved up two places into fifth place. This meant some teams faltered as the Rolling Stones and Latecomers each fell two places to sixth and eighth spot. The Wedgers also moved up two places to ninth after doubling their season total in one night.

We have a new leader for the Team Low Gross as the Fat Shafts turned in a solid round of 88. The low individual rounds with a score of 28 were shot by Norm Toyne, Andy Koetstra and Paul Dicrescenzo.

Three teams swept their matches as the Hackers, Wedgers and KGB grabbed 12 points each.
Kyle Wilkinson intense on hole 14.
The Fat Shafts increased their lead slightly by taking 10 points. The Whizbangers and Southpaws each took 8 points while the Bogies and Latecomers snagged four. The Rolling Stones earned a pair of points for the night.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Marty McDonald on hole #9 while Kyle Wilkinson hit the pin on hole #18 for the honour. The 50/50 winner was Rob Campbell.

2015 Playoffs - First Nine

It was a hot night on the old links as we kicked off the 2015 league playoffs and for one particular golfer, the night was even warmer.

Norm Toyne helped his Wedgers team to a lead in the “B” Division by shooting an impressive three under par round of 24. That score combined with the rest of the team produced the low total of the night with an 89. The KGB sit seven shots back with a 96. The Fivesome turned in a 99 while the Whizbangers shot 104.

In the “A” Division the scores were more average which will keep things relatively tight heading into round two next Wednesday. The Southpaws and Rolling Stones each posted scores of 94 while the Dubbers shot 97. The Fat Shafts had a less than impressive start but still remain within nine strokes of the lead after posting a 103.

Over on the “C” Division, the Bogies set the high mark by turning in the groups only sub 100 round by shooting a team total of 99. That score gives them a one stroke lead over the CCCP who played to a total of 100. The Latecomers and Hackers also had strong nights and sit six shots out of first after shooting 105 each.

There were eight Closest to the Pin holes to shoot for this evening with four on the front and four on the back nine. The winners were:

Hole #1: Paul Dicrescenzo
Hole #2: Randy Conley

Hole #3: Rick Dean
Hole #4: Jim Turner

A Damp Round

We had our doubts that we'd get the round in but the stormy weather held off just long enough to complete the round, although we did get a little damp in the process.
Watching for groups to come in from the storm.
As the thunder got closer our pace quickened and most groups managed to get in to the clubhouse before the heavy rain arrived.

It was a clean sweep again tonight in the matches as the Southpaws, Whizbangers, Fivesome, KGB, CCCP and Dubbers all took six points.

The Closest to the Pin winners this week were Benny Brock on hole #8 and and Paul Dicrescenzo on hole #17. The 50/50 winner was Roger Bulman.

Just a reminder that starting next week we play 18 holes for three weeks straight.

Everyone's On The Board

What a difference a week makes.

The Southpaws who had yet to give up a single point this season finally cracked as the KGB were up to the challenge grabbing four points from the lefties.
Art Mansfield reacts to just missing his putt.
At the same time, the previously pointless Hackers changed that this week as well by turning in an impressive round.

Only three teams this week swept all the points in their matches as the Hackers, Fivesome and Fat Shafts earned six points each. The KGB, Rolling Stones and Whizbangers each earned four points while the Southpaws and Dubbers took two points each. The low team gross for the night was 92, shot by the Rolling Stones. Paul Dicrescenzo and Al Wilkinson turned in the lowest rounds of the night as they both shot one over par 28.

The Closest to the Pin winners this week were Jerry Powell on hole #5 and Andy Koetstra on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Art Mansfield.

That's More Like It

After suffering through sweltering heat last Wednesday night, the change in temperature was welcomed by all of us as the humidity has left us for a while. This made for a much more comfortable round of golf.

With only four more weeks of regular season play remaining, the playoff positioning is becoming more clear and the chance for teams to make moves is quickly running out.

Four teams swept all six points in their matches tonight. They included the Whizbangers, Southpaws, Dubbers and Rolling Stones. The KGB grabbed five points while the Wedgers earned four points. The Latecomers took two points while a single point went to the Hackers.

Nick Vangemeren had the low round of the night with a 28. Kevin Wadsworth was this weeks 50/50 winner while the Closest to the Pin winners were Michael Walker on Hole #5 and Paul Dicrescenzo on the 15th hole.

Season Humming Along

Here we are into July already and the season is half over. As edge closer to the end the jockeying for playoff positions will continue to take shape.

Another hot and sticky night produced some excellent scores and at least one not so impressive round. Well, it was impressive but for all of the wrong reason. I'll just leave it at that.

Teams taking all six points in their matches included the Wedgers, Southpaws, Rolling Stones, Fat Shafts and Whizbangers. The Dubbers took four points while two went to the KGB.

Dave Walker was the winner of the Closest to the Pin prize on the front nine sticking it close on hole #3 while Matt Couperus was close on hole #15. The 50/50 winner was Paul Dicrescenzo.

18 Holes - Week Three

It was a hot and humid evening as we played our last 18 hole match of the season. The temperature was pushing 30 degrees when we teed off but cooled off a bit as the sun set and the mosquitoes came out.

It was business as usual as teams continued to jockey for positions. The Dubbers and Wedgers were the only teams to take all 12 points in their matches for the night.

Nick Vangemeren had the low nine hole score of the night with a 27 which was good enough to move him into a three-way tie for the Low Individual Gross.

Mark Adams put one tight on hole #2 to take the Closest to the Pin prize on the front nine while Paul Dicrescenzo had the best shot on hole #11 for the honour. The 50/50 prize went to Sean Jarvis.

Just a reminder that next Wednesday night (July 1st) is the 18 hole team scramble. The cost is $10 per team and is the only chance you'll have to play a whole round with your team this season.
