Let The Playoffs Begin

With so many possible playoff scenarios heading into tonight's matches, the final standings were decided without the need for tie-breakers, coin flips or calculators.

When the dust settled on this final night of the regular season, the three playoff brackets were clearly defined heading into round one next Wednesday night.
Scott Reilly starts his round on hole 12.
The playoff flights are listed below.

On this night, three teams swept their matches as the KGB, Hackers and Rolling Stones took six points. Earning four points were the Fat Shafts, Southpaws and Latecomers while two points each went to the CCCP, Fivesome and Bogies. Tim Donaldson shot a round of 28 for the low score of the night.

The 50/50 was won by Dave Pemberton while the closest to the pin winners were Randy Conley on hole #9 and Andy Koetstra on hole #18. Andy's round of 26 this season held up to win the Individual Low Gross while the KGB won the Team Low Gross with their score of 88.

Playoffs will take place the next two Wednesday nights from the White tees and on Saturday September 9th we play the final 18 holes from the Blue tees followed by the wrap up party. Everyone think sunny thoughts.

St.Denis Hot Again

When you're hot, you're hot and for Tom St.Denis, he's on fire when it comes to the Closest to the Pin holes. For the third straight week Tom walked away with a share of the pot by landing his ball closest on hole #8. Scott Reilly was dialed in and earned the honour on hole #17.

If you forgot your bug spray you were extra busy during tonight's round swatting the pesky mosquitoes between or even during your shots.

For the first time in a long time there was a forfeit as the Rolling Stones were unable to field a team which resulted in the Fivesome being awarded all six points. Also taking six were the Dubbers, CCCP, Wedgers and Fat Shafts. The Southpaws earned five points while a single point went to the Hackers.

Paul Scobie shot the Low round of the evening with a 29. Tom St.Denis and Andy Koetstra each shot 30. No teams came close to challenging the Team Low Gross. Marty MacDonald  was the 50/50 winner this week.

An Ace for Muldoon

I wasn't able to attend tonight's round but I was informed that Don Muldoon stepped up to the first hole and deposited his tee shot into the cup for what I believe is the first hole-in-one of the season for the league. I'm sure he had a wine or two following the round. Congratulations Don!

This was also the last round of double points for the year I believe which puts us half way through the season if you can believe it. Grabbing all 12 points in their matches were the Fat Shafts, Hackers, KGB, Rolling Stones and Southpaws. The CCCP took 8 points while four points went to the Latecomers.

The Team Low Gross lead is becoming a log jam as the Southpaws became the third team to shoot a low round of 88. Tim Donaldson had the low round of the night with a 26. Kyle Wilkinson continued his hot streak by earning his fourth Closest to the Pin prize in five weeks by putting one close on hole #11. Scott Reilly put his tee shot on hole #2 close for the honour on the front nine. This weeks 50/50 winner was Don St.Denis.

Fat Shafts Grab Share of Lead

The top of the standings continues to be crowded but for the first time in a while more than one team shares the top spot. The Fat Shafts, led by Stephen Westlake's low round of 28 for the night, took six points from the Hackers and share first place with the Southpaws with 26 points each.

Other teams sweeping their matches to earn six points included CCCP and the Bogies. The Southpaws, Dubbers and KGB each took four points while the Latecomers, Rolling Stones and Whizbangers earned two points each.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Scott Reilly on hole #5 and Denis Schick on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was Mark Lafee.

We also want to congratulate Tom and Alida on the birth of their newest Granddaughter.

Regular Season Speeding By

It's hard to believe the month of July is nearly complete and another regular season of golf is quickly passing us by. But although the playoffs are on the horizon, there's still time left for teams to make moves to improve their positions and secure spots in each of the divisions.

The lowest scores of the evening went to Al Wilkinson and Jim Turner who each posted a one over par round of 28.

On this night there were only three teams that swept all six points up for grabs in their matches. Both the Southpaws, Fivesome and Whizbangers got the job done. The Rolling Stones and Dubbers each took five points. The KGB earned four points over the Fats Shafts who grabbed two points and the Bogies and CCCP each took one point on the night.

The Closest to the Pin winners this week were Benny Brock on hole #3 and Scott Reilly on hole #12. Dave Reid was this weeks 50/50 winner.

Koetstra On Fire Tonight

It's early in the season but Andy Koetstra of the Fat Shafts was in mid-season form as he turned in an impressive round tonight.

His round of one under par 26 led all golfers and moved him into sole possession of the Individual Low Gross. Andy's first shot of the night on hole #12 also held up and garnered him the Closest to the Pin prize for the back nine.
Mark Adams tees off on hole three.
The front nine winner was Barry Defosse on hole #3. The 50/50 winner this week was Marsh Ferguson.

Five of the six matches for the evening were swept as the Fat Shafts, CCCP, Southpaws, Bogies and Wedgers all took six points. The Rolling Stones came close with five points while a single point went to the Latecomers.

I also want to say welcome to all of the new league members we have this year as I see several new faces have joined us. We all hope you enjoy your time in the league this season.

Sorry for the delay updating guys. Work and errands take priority sadly.

Fat Shafts Edge Dubbers For Final "A" Spot

The only thing left to be decided heading into the final night of the regular season was the last available spot in the "A" Flight of the Playoffs.

The Dubbers held a one point lead over the Fat Shafts but with the Fat Shafts sweep of the Bogies and the Dubbers only managing four points against the Rolling Stones, the Fat Shafts came from behind to grab the final spot by a single point.

Also taking points tonight were the Southpaws with six and an impressive regular season league championship with a total of 120 points. The KGB also grabbed all six points in their match. Taking four points were the CCCP and Whizbangers. The Hackers and Latecomers grabbed two points each.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Terry Letch on hole #1 and Steve Westlake on #10. Scott Reilly was the 50/50 winner.

The Playoffs will start next week with nine holes for the next two Wednesday's and a final 18 holes and the wrap-up party on Saturday September 8th. Good Luck to all!

Reilly Drains Fourth Ace

Scott Reilly aces 2nd hole.
For the second week in a row our league saw a hole-in-one as Scott Reilly aced the 132 yard 2nd hole. Scott used a 9-iron to grab his fourth hole-in-one ever on his way to a 3 over par round of 30. Congratulations Scott!

Hitting their shots tight on the money holes tonight were Jim Boers on hole #8 while Nick Vangemeren was the Closest to the Pin winner on hole #17. Don St.Denis was this weeks 50/50 winner.

Five of the evenings matches were swept as the Wedgers, KGB, Rolling Stones, Whizbangers and Southpaws took six points each. The Hackers earned four points from the Dubbers who settled for two.

It's hard to believe that only two weeks of regular season golf remain before playoffs begin. The summer has flown by once again.

Yup, It's Summer Golf

While the heat wasn't quite at the level it was last week there's no doubt the sauna was still open for business as we hit the links tonight.

The humidity might be getting to some but for most we're enjoying the sun, warmth and golf game while we can. We know all too well what awaits us in four months or so.

With only one player in attendance, the Wedgers were forced to forfeit their match, thus handing all six points to the Bogies. The KGB, Fivesome and Fat Shafts also swept their matches.

Dave Powell zeroed in on hole #4 and lipped out just missing his ace but held on to win the Closest the the Pin. Scott Reilly also put his close on #13. The 50/50 was won by Michael Walker.
