The storms moved out in time but at least one torrential ten minutes of rain managed to soak the golfers tonight. On the bright side it cooled us down for about five minutes before the humidity kicked in again.
Sorry guys but I had to leave before everyone had made it off the course so no update this week to the standings yet. Hopefully I'll get it done before next week...but don't count on it. I do know that Jim Conley won the 50/50 this week.
Have a good weekend and see you next Wednesday.
The league consists of 12 teams playing each Wednesday night between April and September. Tee time is 6:00 PM. The home course is Murray Hills Golf Club located in Wooler, Ontario.

Blue Tees Play Tough
The play from the blue tees proved to be a challenge tonight for many. The distance combined with some stiff breezes made for some challenging holes and in some cases some higher scores than normal.
The Rolling Stones, Latecomers, Wedgers, Hackers and KGB all took six points while the Dubbers grabbed four from the CCCP.
The Closest to the Pin prizes were won by Kim Defosse (#5) and Nick Vangemeren (#14). Andy Koetstra grabbed the 50/50 prize.

Yup, It's Summer Golf
While the heat wasn't quite at the level it was last week there's no doubt the sauna was still open for business as we hit the links tonight.
The humidity might be getting to some but for most we're enjoying the sun, warmth and golf game while we can. We know all too well what awaits us in four months or so.
With only one player in attendance, the Wedgers were forced to forfeit their match, thus handing all six points to the Bogies. The KGB, Fivesome and Fat Shafts also swept their matches.
Dave Powell zeroed in on hole #4 and lipped out just missing his ace but held on to win the Closest the the Pin. Scott Reilly also put his close on #13. The 50/50 was won by Michael Walker.

Like Golfing in a Sauna
If anyone ever wanted to know what it would be like to golf in a sauna, wonder no more. With no breeze and the humidity making it feel like 41C (that's 105F for the non-metric folks) we were thankful that it was only 9 holes tonight and not 18. If the heat wasn't enough to make you a little grumpy, the deer flies certainly helped.
The Whizbangers, Wedgers, Rolling Stones, Southpaws and CCCP all took six points while the Fat Shafts managed to grab five from the Bogies.
The Closest to the Pin winners were Alec McQuarrie on #3 and Nick Vangemeren on #12. This weeks 50/50 winner was Larry Tomchick.

Wedgers Go Low
Steve Westlake shot a 25 to move into a tie for Individual Low Gross while at the same time helping his team to post what is likely a new record Low Team Gross for our league. The Wedgers combined their scores to shoot a 79.
Three teams swept all 12 points up for grabs as the Wedgers, KGB and Fat Shafts had a good night. The Southpaws lead shrunk just a bit as they managed 10 points versus the CCCP.
Jimmy Rogers had a good night winning the 50/50 and he also grabbed the cash for Closest to the Pin on hole #11. Kevin Wadsworth's nice shot held for closest on #2.
Next week we return to 9 holes and I believe we'll be playing the blue tees for the first time in a while.
Have a Happy Canada Day guys!

No Rain and No Update
Sorry guys but I couldn't wait around for the last groups to get in and tally their totals tonight.
The stormy weather and rain thankfully didn't show up and we were able to get in our second 18 hole round of the year. Our final 18 holes will be played next Wednesday night.
If I don't get the standings updated in the next few days, I'll try and get it updated next week.
See you on Wednesday night.
Note: Standings have now been updated.

Light Rain and Low Scores
The rain stopped prior to tee off and only made a brief appearance during the 18 hole round on Wednesday night.
The Southpaws had a good night taking all 12 points in their match while also setting the new Low Team Gross shooting an 84. The Rolling Stones and Whizbangers also took 12 points each. Randy Conley for the Stones had his first ever hole-in-one as he deposited his tee shot into the cup on hole 16 using a wedge.
Tim Donaldson shot lights out for nine setting the new Individual Low Gross bar even lower with a 25. Andy Koetstra also shot 25 and an 18-hole total of 52 but didn't count as it was his night to sit out.
Dan Jess won the 50/50 while the Closest to the Pin prizes went to Al Wilkinson on hole #9 and Steve Powell on #18.

April Showers in June

The rain sent most home or to the clubhouse but a few groups decided to play nine holes just for the fun of it. I was not one of them as I decided to enjoy a beverage with my teammates instead.
Having some spare time I was able to get the results from last week and have updated the standings. I can also report that the Closest to the Pin winners were Steve Westlake on #8 and Art Cross on #17. Mark Kennedy was last weeks 50/50 winner.
See you next week as we try for another 18 holes.

Oh No...Rain!
Sorry guys but there's no update this week.
I'm afraid I was unable to make it out and before you jump to conclusions, the decision was made earlier in the day before there was any hint of foul weather. I just got lucky that I missed a rainy night.
This of course means the standings won't be updated until I get a chance to see them again which likely won't take place until next Wednesday night.

Walker Wins Again
For the second week in a row, Dave Walker earned the Closest to the Pin honours on one of the appointed holes. Walker stuck it close on #16 to take home the prize. Dan Jess rebounded from a lofty score the week prior to turn in a much improved round and also get the Closest to the Pin prize for the front nine on hole #7.
This weeks 50/50 winner was Al Wilkinson.
On what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far our members turned in some impressive scores but only three teams swept all the points in their matches. The Wedgers, Southpaws and Latecomers all took six points.
The Southpaws continue to hold a seven point lead over the second place Wedgers in the standings.
