Playoffs Are Set

It came down to the last night and in one case a single point but the regular season is complete and the playoffs are set to begin next week.

The "A" division teams were all known except for the final spot and the Fat Shafts leapfrogged the KGB tonight to grab fourth place by one point. That was the only real change that took place in determining where the teams are placed. The Southpaws claimed the regular season title for the fourth year in a row, edging out the Rolling Stones.

On this night, the CCCP, Dubbers, Southpaws, Rolling Stones and Fat Shafts all grabbed six points. The KGB took four points while the Latecomers took two points. The Closest to the Pin winners were Denis Schick on hole #1 and Eric Korver on hole #10. The 50/50 winner was Marty MacDonald.

Week one of the playoffs will start next Wednesday night followed by another nine holes the following Wednesday and then the 18 hole final on the Saturday that week beginning at 3pm.

Here are the playoff divisions:

Okay, Now There's One Week Left

It has come to my attention that after tonight's round, we still have one week of regular season left. Last week I was given some wrong information from Andy Koetstra regarding this and that is what led to the confusion.
Andy asks for forgiveness.
Andy feels much shame for making this error and has promised me one beer as punishment and asked for forgiveness. So in fact, NOW we only have one more week remaining before the playoffs begin.

I'm short on time so I've updated the standings and you can do the math regarding potential playoff implications of the final week.

Tonight, there were three teams that swept their matches as the Bogies, Fivesome and Southpaws each grabbed six points. The Hackers, KGB and Fat Shafts all earned four points while the Latecomers, Rolling Stones and Wedgers took two points each.

The Closest to the Pin winners this week were Paul Reid on hole #9 and Mark Kennedy on hole #18. The 50/50 winner was Steve Powell. See you next week.

WARNING: The following videos are rated PG for strong language. Someone had a bad night on the course.

One More Week Before Playoffs

With only one more week of regular season rounds remaining, the playoff picture is clear for those teams at the top and bottom of the standings, however there is still room for change in the middle with one round left.

This week the Southpaws assured themselves of at least a share of first overall by taking six points from the Rolling Stones. The Dubbers sit firmly in third. The final spot in the "A" Division of the playoffs will be determined next week as five points separate the KGB, Fat Shafts, Wedgers and Whizbangers. One will be in while the remaining three will battle it out in the "B" Division. The final "B" Division spot is also unknown as four points separate the Fivesome and Bogies for that place in the standings.

During play this week, the Fat Shafts and Southpaws were the only teams to sweep their matches and take six points. The Wedgers, Dubbers and Whizbangers took five points each. The Bogies grabbed four points from the Fivesome who took two. Taking single points were the CCCP, Latecomers and KGB.

The Closest to the Pin  winners were Kyle Wilkinson on hole #8 and Benny Brock on hole #17. The 50/50 winner this week was Randy Conley.

Century Mark Hit

It's all even at the top of the standings as the Southpaws moved into a tie with the Rolling Stones tonight. Both teams also moved into triple digits with 100 points each.

The Dubbers are well back in third place while the KGB sit in fourth just six points ahead of the Wedgers and Fat Shafts.
Sharing an after round beverage and stories.
With time running out on the regular season, the chance for teams to make moves to improve playoff positions is dwindling.

On this night there were four teams that swept their matches as the Fat Shafts, Southpaws, Dubbers and Fivesome each grabbed six points. The Rolling Stones and Bogies each earned four points while the Hackers and Wedgers took two points.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Jimmy Rogers on hole #7 and Kyle Wilkinson on hole #16. The 50/50 winner this week was Coady MacGillivary.

Holy Heatwave Batman!

Far be it for me to complain about the heat but holy guacamole that was a scorcher tonight. Add in the local insects and it made for a tough round of golf.

The sauna-like conditions didn't affect Andy Koetstra as he came close to tying the Individual Low Gross. He missed his last putt for the tie but still posted an impressive even par round of 27.

Meanwhile in the evenings matches the Southpaws moved to within two points of the first place Rolling Stones after the Stones were shutout. Taking all six points in their rounds tonight were the Fat Shafts, KGB and Latecomers. The Wedgers earned five points while the Southpaws and Fivesome took four points each. The CCCP and Whizbangers grabbed a pair of points while a single point went to the Hackers.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Jim Turner on hole #6 while Don Muldoon stuck it tight on hole #15. The 50/50 winner was Kory Hietala.

Stones Nearing Century Mark

It's still a battle at the top of the standings between the Rolling Stones and the Southpaws.
Kevin Wadsworth is dialed in on hole #16.
The Stones are closing in on the 100 points mark for the season while the Southpaws remain within striking distance of the lead should they falter.

Both teams continued their winning ways on Wednesday night as they swept their matches. Also taking all six points up for grabs were the Dubbers. The Whizbangers took five points, the Fivesome and KGB earned four, the Fat Shafts and Hackers took two while the Wedgers earned a single point.

Taking the Closest to the Pin honours tonight were Jim Conley on hole #5 and Kyle Wilkinson on hole #14. The 50/50 winner was David Swartz.

See you Wednesday night.

Something In The Air

It might have been the cooler temperatures or the pauses between swings to swat bugs but whatever it was, it was one of those nights for many where it just felt right. Several players, myself included, came close to getting aces while others were just hitting the ball well, Whatever the reason, lets hope it continues and everyone plays well down the stretch.

On this evening, all but one match was a sweep. Taking all six points up for grabs were the Fat Shafts, Rolling Stones, Southpaws, KGB and Whizbangers. The Bogies earned four points while the Wedgers took two.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Ryan Cuculuzzi on hole #4 and Benny Brock on hole #13. The 50/50 winner this week was Peter Hughes.

Sorry no photos or videos again this week. I was in the zone and forgot.

Sixes Were Wild

Sorry I'm a little late with the update guys. I'm busy busy busy these days. But better late than never.

It was a beautiful night for golf this week. It was so nice in fact that I think every mosquito in Wooler decided to feast on the course like seniors at an early bird special buffet in Florida. I'm still scratching and hearing the buzzing in my ears.

In between swatting and swearing we were able to get in our round and on this night sixes were wild as every match was swept. I think that might be a first this season. Taking all six points up for grabs were the Fat Shafts, Rolling Stones, Wedgers, Southpaws, Hackers and Latecomers.

The Closest to the Pin winners were Mark Kennedy on hole #3 and Matt Couperus on hole #12. The 50/50 winner was Art Mansfield.

Big Points Night

After three weeks of playing for 12 points, next week we'll return to the usual six point matches.
A passing shower left a nice rainbow behind tonight.
For some teams that will be a welcome sight as other teams took full advantage of the double point rounds.

All but one of the matches tonight were sweeps as the mosquitoes didn't hurt some games even if they did leave their mark on a lot of us.

Taking all 12 points up for grabs were the Southpaws, Wedgers, Bogies, Dubbers and Rolling Stones. The KGB earned 10 points while the Hackers grabbed two.

The Closest to the Pin winners this week were Paul Scobie on hole #2 and on hole # 11 it was Peter Hughes. This weeks 50/50 winner was Tom St. Denis.
